The Assignments included in your course consist of Written Assignments, Quizzes, and Exams. Assignments can be placed within different assignment groups or new assignments groups can be added. The Assignments page with the course will show your students all of the Assignments that will be expected of them and how many points each is worth.

Adding an Assignment using the Course Navigation Menu
Click the Assignments link on the Course Navigation menu.
Access the Sidebar of the Assignment page. From the drop down menu, select the Assignment Group to which you would like to add your new assignment. (Assignment Groups allows you to organize the assignments within your course.)
- If no group is selected, the assignment will be added to the group displayed. If this does occur, you will be able to move the assignment to the correct assignment group after it has been added.

Once an Assignment Group has been selected or created, you may add your assignment to it by selecting the Add Assignment link.
From the Assignment creation function, the following options will be displayed:
- Enter a name for your assignment in the Assignment Title field.
- Select the appropriate Assignment Type from the drop down menu (Please Note: Keep in mind that Assignments can refer to Quizzes, Written Assignments, Discussions, etc.).
- Select a due date (Optional).
- Set the number points for the assignment if you are creating a graded assignment.
- Select More Options to access the Content Editor . See the following screen shot for additional information on the features of the Content Editor.
- Select the Update button.
The following options are available if the More Options button is selected in the previous steps:
- Use the Content Editor window to add text to the assignment.
- Add Links to the assignment
- Use the Switch Views option to input HTML code
- Access the Advanced Options.
Please Note: Selecting Show Advanced Options will allow you to select the Grading Type, Submission Type, create a Group Assignment, and set up Peer Review.
Once you have created your assignment(s), they will be listed under the Assignment Group section of the Assignment page within your course. We highly recommend that you add it to the Module section of your course to ensure students can easily locate and/or access the Assignment while doing their course work.

Adding an Assignment from the Module
From the Modules page (accessed from the Course Navigation), click on the Edit icon associated to the Module in which you would like to add the page to and select + Add Content. (The Edit icon is located on the right side of each Module header.)
From the Add Item to Module pop-up window, use the following options to create your content page:
- From the Item Type drop-down menu, select Assignment.
- From the Assignment list, select a pre-existing Assignment or select [New Assignment] to create a new Assignment.
- If [New Assignment] was selected in Step 2, you will be prompted to complete the field areas of the pop screen (Name, Group, Points, and Due). Click Add Assignment to proceed to the next step.
- Click the Add Item button.
The Assignment will then be added to the Module. For newly created assignments, the assignment details will be blank. Click the title of the newly created page to add content.
From the Assignment Screen, click the Edit button.
The following options will be available from the Add Content screen.
- Add content to your page using the Content Editor.
- Link to existing pages, files, or images using the Content Selector
- Input content as HTML by using the Switch Views editor link.
- Selecting Show Advanced Options will allow you to select the Grading Type, Submission Type, create a Group Assignment, and Peer Review.
- Click the Update Assignment button.
