What is the Difference Between Due Date and Availability Dates?

In addition to setting a Due Date for an assignment, instructors can specify a specific date range that students can submit the assignment. These dates are called Availability Dates.

The Due Date is when you want students to turn in the assignment or quiz.

Availability Dates are the date range where students can submit the assignment or quiz. The first available date is the Available From date, and the last available date is the Until date. After the Until date, students will not be able to submit the assignment or quiz.

Please Note:

• Students can still submit an assignment after the Due Date unless you create an Until date using the Availability Dates feature.
• If a student starts the quiz but does not finish by the Due Date, the system will automatically submit the quiz on the Due Date. Additionally, if the quiz/exam is timed, the system will automatically submit the quiz/exam when the time limit is reached.
• If the Until date is after the Due Date, students can still submit the assignment, but the assignment will be marked as late in the Gradebook.

Edit/View Due Date and Availability Dates

To edit or view the Due Date and/or Availability Dates for an Assignment, access the Assignment by clicking on the Assignment Name on the Modules page or click the Assignments option on the Course Navigation.

The assignment Due Date displays under the Due heading [1]. The Availability Dates display under the Available from and Until headings [2].

Click Edit [3] to edit the assignment date settings.

1. At the Due Date field, enter the Due Date for your Assignmemt.
2. At the Available From and Until fields, enter the date range you would like you Assignment to be accessed/completed by studeents.
3. Click Save to save the the changes to your Assignment.

Student View

When students open an assignment with availability dates, they will see the assignment details for when the assignment is Due [1] and Available [2].

If the Available Date is current, students can access/submit the Assignment.

If the Assignment is not yet available, students will see the date that that they can submit the Assignment. If the Assignment has already closed, students will see the date the Assignment became locked. [3]
