Instructor Orientation: View Student Activity

The course site offers an Access Report which allows you to view the activity for an individual student in your course. Follow the steps below to access, generate, and understand the user Access Report report:


  1. From the Course Navigation menu, click the People link.

  2. Click on the name of the student [1] for which you would like to see activity. In high-enrollment courses, you can locate a user by searching in the search bar [2] or by filtering using the roles drop-down menu [3].

  3. On the User page, locate and click the Access Report link.

  4. The Access Report will be displayed for the selected student.

    The Access Report will show you:

    1. The content the user has viewed.
    2. The number of times the user viewed the content.
    3. The number of times the user participated (if applicable, such as posting to a discussion or submitting an assignment). For quizzes/exams, the number of times partificipated refers to the number of questions the user reponded to.
    4. The last time the user viewed the content.
    5. Content items may also display icons to represent the content such as an assignment, page, download, or discussion. You can hover over the icon to view the details of the content.

      Please Note: The A+ (Assignment) icon will be displayed for a quiz/exam when a user has accessed the quiz/exam from the Assignments area of the course.
